Field Methodology

Fifty states, thousands of backroads, and unvarnished American life.

We do not scout locations or direct subjects. Every frame records natural light meeting the road as it exists, captured on medium-format silver stock.

Core Commitment

Zero fill flash, zero directed subjects, pure natural exposure across interstate corridors.

The Field

Traveling backroads with medium-format field cameras.

Working away from tourist centers and commercial staging, the survey relies on heavy analog gear and long stays in single towns. By waiting for shifting weather and overcast daylight, the resulting monographs capture authentic local architecture and tradespeople without artifice.

Each state monograph is assembled over years of recurring visits, preserving an archival record of shifting infrastructure and enduring regional cultures.

Archive Workflow
